Teachers want your child to do well too. A short, friendly start makes the whole year easier.
Before the meeting
- Fill in the About my child page (printable).
- Pick your top one or two concerns. Not ten.
- Ask your child: what's hard at school, and what helps?
Meeting checklist
- Start with your child's strengths.
- Share what you've noticed, with examples.
- Share two or three things that help at home.
- Ask what the teacher is seeing.
- Agree on one or two things to try.
- Agree how you'll stay in touch: email, planner note, or a quick call.
- Set a date to check in again.
After the meeting
- Send a short thank-you email that sums up what you agreed.
- Tell your child the plan in simple words.
